HVAC Long Island – Preparing Your System For Summer

With summer right around the corner, it is essential to begin preparing your HVAC unit for the climate change. As you take off your big baggy pants and begin swapping to shorts and t-shirts, your HVAC unit also needs to be redressed. There are a few different steps that need to be taken, in order to properly prepare your climate control system. Below, you will be able to discover how to do just that.

Inspect Your Unit

Before making a call to the one of the HVAC Long Island technicians, you will first want to inspect the unit on your own. If you’re lucky, your unit will switch right on and will begin blowing out cool air. At the same time, you will want to listen carefully to your climate control unit. How does it sound? Make sure that the unit is quiet and doesn’t jingle or rattle. If your system is up and running properly, you will be able to proceed forward. However, if your system isn’t operating properly, you will want to contact a professional company and allow one of their technicians to inspect and troubleshoot your HVAC unit.

The Filter

Although the filter might not seem like a big factor, it actually is somewhat impactful! Throughout the year, it is vital to make sure that your filter is cleaned and replaced, if need be. Before summer rolls around, you should take the time to check the filter. If you’ve been utilizing a reusable filter, you will want to wash it thoroughly, before returning it to the designated area. Otherwise, you will need to throw it out and replace it with a brand new one.

Check The Ductwork

Once you’ve finished checking the elements above, you will want to begin inspecting your ductwork. Depending on the specific setup of your unit, you might need to call out an HVAC Long Island professional to take care of this for you. If the ductwork is easily accessible, this won’t be a problem though. With the unit switched on, you will want to carefully inspect all areas of the ductwork. Make sure that there are no leaks! A leak will significantly lower the effectiveness of your HVAC system. Therefore, you will want to tape it up and completely seal the leak or call out a technician and allow them to replace the duct all together.

Airing Out Your Home

Finally, there is one other thing that should be taken care of, before summer arrives. With the mild temperatures of spring, it is possible to open up your doors and windows, without freezing or becoming overheated. Therefore, you should give your home the opportunity to air out. This can be a very effective way to prevent the growth of mold and mildew. At the same time, this extra little step will remove foul odors for your home!

Overall

Although HVAC units are fairly reliable, they can go awry from time to time. Therefore, it is essential to inspect your unit frequently. Also, you will want to take preventive measures to prepare your house, ductwork and HVAC unit for summer. By doing this, you will be able to prevent surprises and avoid sweating unnecessarily!
